Promise
Revealed and Fulfilled. Over a century ago Elon Homes and Schools for Children made a promise to this community. Any child who needed refuge could come here for an education, a safe home environment and life skills development. Over 102 years later the community's needs have changed, but the dedication to helping children realize their full potential remains steadfast.

The Elon School is a product of Elon Homes and Schools for Children's 102 year commitment to children and families in Alamance County and the surrounding counties. This commitment has been made possible by the Elon Homes and Schools for Children's strong philanthropic support and a diligent stewardship of financial resources over the past century. In addition to The Elon School, Elon Homes and Schools for Children assets are used to provide a diverse array of educational and children and family services to over 1,100 young people each year in fifteen North Carolina counties.

The Elon School campus, with its well maintained academic buildings and existing infrastructure, will support an outstanding college preparatory program of up to 240 students grades 9-12. Existing structures have been, and will continue to be, modified and other program support spaces will at some point be added. The Foundation of Elon Homes and Schools for Children has committed $7 million in essential start-up funds and will seek philanthropic partnerships throughout the community to provide continued support.

Phase 1 Completed June 2008
In the year prior to its opening and during The Elon School’s first year of operation Phase I was completed:

bullet Landscape the 20-acre campus and install stone signage.
bullet Construct regulation-size soccer field.
bullet Provide funds budgeted for start-up and first year operations.

Phase 2 Completed August 2008
During Phase II The Elon School enhanced the campus for its second year of operations and received from Elon Homes for Children Foundation the additional funds needed to support second year operations.

bullet Construct Practice Fields to accommodate multiple sports/teams.
bullet Rehabilitate McEwen Building to accommodate science, math and arts classrooms and laboratories until a new academic building is constructed.

Promise
Yet to Be. The commitment of Elon Homes and Schools for Children will ensure the initial financial success of the school. However, long-term capital and programmatic enhancements such as those seen in Phases 3 and 4 below will require additional contributions from annual, capital and endowment giving.

It is projected that when significant philanthropic support is available The Elon School will further enhance the campus with additional capital and endowment projects. These might include the following:

Phase 3 Projected for the Future

bullet Construct a Sports and Activities Center: a full size competition scale gym, an auxiliary/practice gym, indoor running track, varsity and junior varsity locker rooms, weight room, training room, coaches' offices, concessions, laundry and a student/parent lounge for activities and gatherings.
bullet Construct an Academic Building: replacing an aging structure on northern edge of campus with new construction.
bullet Build The Elon School Endowment: endow (1) merit-based scholarships for students exhibiting strong scholarship, leadership and citizenship; (2) need-based financial assistance to attract and support students who enrich the study body.
bullet Expand Media Center and Library.
bullet Build Soccer Field Terraced Bleachers.
bullet Enhance Rose Garden: restore historic structures and endow permanent upkeep.
bullet Construct Theatre and Performance Center.
bullet Construct Music and Visual Arts Classrooms.
bullet Construct Maintenance Facility.
bullet Potentially acquire land for future expansion.
