Board of Governors
The Elon School is owned and operated by Elon Homes and Schools for Children, Inc. which is governed by the Board of Governors. In addition to The Elon School, Elon Homes and Schools for Children owns and operates five additional corporations serving eleven North Carolina counties and 1,100 students including: Kennedy Charter Public School, Family Foster Care, Kids Central of the Carolinas, the Boys Town Trust and the Elon Children’s Foundation. The Board governs each of these corporations utilizing the Policy Governance® model which was created by John Carver, Ph.D. Policy Governance® is a specific set of concepts and principles that applies to the servant-leadership of boards and the board-CEO partnership. The Board of Governors job is stated through policies and includes:
Establishing the "Ends" for each corporation of Elon Homes and Schools for Children, Inc. which state what will be accomplished, for whom, and at what cost. |
Stating what are not acceptable means for achieving the "Ends". |
Monitoring and assuring organizational performance for each corporation. |
